My husband and I live in a river town along the Mississippi.  We bike and kayak through the backwaters daily in the warmer months and the great heron is always hiding in the reeds waiting and watching as we go by.  Even though we have the privilege of seeing this species on a regular basis we never cease to be amazed by its beauty and size.

This silver heron bowl has sat on our dining room table on the Brule River for as long as I can remember.  It too has been a silent observer of countless meals and conversations amongst our family over the span of 50 years.  Oh the stories he could tell.
