This old Jack Frost fan was a great challenge attempting to capture the reflective colors in the metal fan blades and the patina of the aged cast base. Careful combining of cool and warm colors allowed me to achieve the palette that reflects the era of the fan, feeling as if this could be a scene from my grandmother’s attic. The shadow adds so much interest to the background and, although subtle, became an important part of the painting.
The old paint box came from a good friend. It belonged to his mother who was a painter when she was alive. The worn leather handle is beautiful and the box made an interesting base below the fan. I included the Borax Soap can because I love the pop of red as a little surprise amongst the quieter color of the overall painting.
